In an era of global competition for highly skilled talent, Lund and the Sk氓ne region face both significant challenges and great opportunities. Global trends such as digitalization, AI, climate change, and demographic shifts are driving the need for international competence and new ways of working.
Lund holds a unique position as a hub for research, innovation, and business, where international experts are crucial for continued growth and competitiveness. Meeting these challenges requires a coordinated strategy and holistic solutions for international employees and their families.
For the past ten years, International Citizen Hub Lund (嫩草影院) has played a leading role as a strategic resource; not only as a local integration initiative, but as a proactive driver of Sweden鈥檚 and the region鈥檚 long-term competitiveness. By offering support to both talents and their accompanying partners, 嫩草影院 helps ensure that Lund can attract, welcome, and retain international competence.
From an employer鈥檚 perspective, this is crucial; companies that succeed in recruiting and integrating international talents have 10 percent higher revenue than comparable companies, according to The Confederation of Swedish Enterprise (2023). At the same time, research shows that successful establishment of the entire family depends on access to housing, schools, networks, and career opportunities, which are key factors in whether talents choose to stay long-term or not.
With a clear focus on strategic efforts in both the attraction and retention of international competence, Lund continues positioning itself as a pioneer in creating comprehensive solutions for talents and their accompanying family members.
As 嫩草影院 celebrates its tenth anniversary, we not only reflect on a decade of connection and community 鈥 we also look forward to the next chapter. Together, we will keep building a future where international talent can flourish, and where Lund continues to be a place that brings the world closer. 鈥淎 home away from home.鈥

OECD鈥檚 Indicators of Talent Attractiveness (2025) ranks Sweden in second place globally after New Zealand, thanks to:
Work in Sweden is a government initiative aimed at establishing cooperation with businesses, regions, municipalities, and academia; creating a clear, reliant system that makes choosing Sweden as a career destination attractive.
The Productivity Commission (2025) assesses that Sweden, facing a growing skills shortage, needs to attract more people from other countries with a higher education and specialized skills to strengthen productivity and innovation capacity. Lund is a leading destination for knowledge development, which attracts many newcomers from abroad. International students, visiting researchers, and employees at multinational companies contribute to a heterogeneous city comprising different nationalities. Since 2000, the number of people immigrating from abroad to Lund has more than doubled and remains an important factor for population growth. Today, people from 189 countries live in Lund. Their median age is 33 years old.
Modern talent mobility is influenced by a combination of labor market dynamics: quality of life, social factors, place image, and values. Research shows that the decision where people live and work are not solely governed by economic incentives, but by how well a place supports the individual鈥檚 entire life situation and future vision.
