When you arrive in a new country, everything feels unfamiliar—even the things you thought you had prepared for. I remember scrolling through Facebook one evening, feeling curious but also a little lost, when I came across a post about a session at the International Citizen Hub.
I signed up for the Kick-Start Career Program without knowing exactly what to expect, simply taking a step forward in my journey in Sweden. Those first sessions felt like a relief. They answered questions I didn’t even know how to ask yet—about life, work, and settling in as a newcomer. More importantly, they made me feel seen. Sitting among people who were at different stages of their relocation journey, I realized that uncertainty was something we all shared.

Like many newcomers, I was navigating job applications, cultural differences, and the challenge of building a professional life from scratch. At the same time, I was learning Swedish, attending SFI, and slowly becoming more confident using the language in everyday situations. Sharing tips about SFI courses, language cafés, and practice opportunities with others helped make the learning process feel less overwhelming and more motivating.
Becoming part of the Kick-Start Program through the International Citizen Hub was a turning point. The program gave structure to my job-search journey and helped me better understand the Swedish labor market. Through workshops, guidance, and shared conversations, I gained clarity, confidence, and motivation. It wasn’t just about practical advice—it was also about mindset and encouragement.
What makes the International Citizen Hub Lund special is the sense of community it creates. Every session reminded me that integration doesn’t happen overnight and that it’s okay to take your time. Listening to others share their experiences—both successes and struggles—made me feel less alone and more hopeful.
Settling into a new country can be challenging, but it also offers space for growth and new possibilities. If you’re new to Sweden and wondering where to begin, I can truly recommend the International Citizen Hub. Sometimes, all it takes is one session, one conversation, or one supportive space to help you find your footing—and start feeling a little more at home.
