From culture shock to connection

If you moved to Sweden from another country and at any point said to yourself, “I thought this would be easier,” you are not alone. In this session, our guest speaker Kristy Marcard will help you get a better sense of what to expect, what choices you have, and how you can start shaping a life here that actually feels like yours.

Portrait of Kirsty Marcard.

A lot of the challenges we experience during international relocation are completely predictable - and this goes beyond logistical or legal challenges to the social and psychological. Our guest speaker Kristy Marcard knows this process first hand and is ready to help you understand what to expect and what options you have to structure your new life so you can begin to feel like you’ve “settled in”.

Kristy will talk about:

  • Culture shock - it’s more than the cold weather! What happens in our subconscious when everything is suddenly different?
  • Acculturation models - how Swedish do I have to become?
  • Community - does that exist here and where can I find it? We need human connection to thrive. Let’s dive into what it can look like, including specifically here in Sweden.

Leave the session feeling encouraged and empowered to build the community you need.
